First thing I need to say: Thanks Wan for the new Rigged model of Sophie!! ^_^

I've been animating Scene 3 (where our two characters gets swallowed up by the Shadow Creature) and I'm almost there - just need to tweak some details of the character's movements (especially with Sophie as I've done most of the animating on Bobo so far) and I think I've made this scene too fast so I need to slow it down a bit! Here's the clips to show my progress (both the same but viewed in different angles):

Ok ladies and gents, the new, new Sophie rig is ready to roll.

I tested it for a while and we need to tweak Bobo ever so slightly.

Dont panic! only 2 small things you need to do:

Step 1: Select Bobo's PURPLE RING...
Step 2: Scale XYZ to 0.8

You'll be able to fit Sophie on to Bobo's shoulders this way.

I managed to unzip the file with the music that you have done - I really like version 030, 033 and 027 and 028 cos they are a bit mysterious but still have a sad feel to them, very good, could u record them longer and with better sound? U can borrow good recorders from college, I would like to use one of them for the opening of the film where she is lost in the mist, maybe u can make a scary sound for the shadow character as well- he shouldn't be a piano though- he is dull and dark, but if u can and want to then please play around with it :) It sounds good.

can u pass me the scenes from the blockout that includes the Shadow character, scene 3 etc, the maya files and the films in our rendering size 576 etc ( cos i didn't save them all when i cleaned my computer ) cos then i can animate and stick in the shadow character and animate him and the bleeding ink effect and then thats done :)

Week 16 - Updated

Hi Everyone!

As u have noticed they has been and are still lots of faults with Sophie- model and rig. Her arms are not very round so when u start bending and moving them u will notice that they don't really look like real arms as they are to flat, there has been problems with her eyes, vrists, legs etc etc and both Wan and Giles are working on her. DON'T SIT AND WAIT - start animating Bobo for your scenes and hopefully a model who is easier to animate will drop down your mailbox any day :)

Our sound guy Emmet is working on sounds, but as I am getting a bit worried about us not having sounds yet I have also contacted another guy on the soundcourse, James, so lets hope that he and Emmet founds something for us as time is running out!

I have made some test for the shadow character as he should be animated and have the floating ink surrounding him and spreading out from him - in the blockout he is just an image, now I tried to bring him to life in a ruff childish drawn way. I can change the pace in editing. More tests on my personal Blog.

We might get animation help from a 2nd year student, Mike and I talked with a guy last week and he was interested and liked the style and look of the film so far BUT he hasn't contacted me yet so we'll see.

Texture Train - Finished (I hope)

Hiya everyone, this is just an experiment and I want to hear all your opinions (since I'm terrible making decisions on my own!!!)

I coloured the main body of the Train in Cream and used the Gold textures from Asa for the window frames. I've coloured the roof and the lower base of the train in dark pink which I hope it will make the train stand out more:

I've used the Gold textures and a normal shiny yellowish/gold colour and not sure which is better on the railings:

The Last Schedule!

Hi Everyone!

Very very important that we stick to this schedule, as you see - there is not much time left so we all need to start animating our scenes NOW so that we have time for changes and tweeking - but most of all rendering and compositing - check Mike's link about animation and tweeking if you haven't been animating for a while it has some tips! We will do lots of parallel work this term- a scene is animated and checked and ticked off- goes straight to rendering and from there to compositing while waiting for the rest of the scenes.

At the next meeting we will discuss who wants to to a bit of compositing ( after effects, maybe shake?) , editing ( final cut pro or premier ), poster for the exhibition etc so that we all can fill our folders. We will all have to render scenes - very important that we all use the SAME render settings, will post them here on the blog.

Hi everyone!!

Damn this break disappeared fast!! Hope u all had a good one!

THE BLOCKOUT: Has been cut down from 5:40 to 4:02, Wan, Emmet and Josie has it now. Raphael couldn't get online so you will get it on Wednesday in college.

SOUND: Emmet the sound guy has sent some examples of music and is working on more but we should all look for music.

CHARACTERS & WORK:

Giles is done with the girl and can give her to us on Wednesday but I am trying to get it via msn or skype before.

Josie – gat the train from Caspar, he will not finish it so Joise will texture it and scale it after the girl. Textures: Cream white train with soft gold details on ex handles and window frames to blend in with the Deadworld and have a fairytale touch.

Asa – is not taking onboard more work right now, I want to focus on the deadworld as I haven’t been able to do it completely with the blockout, the dr rig, the tree trainstation and the hospital etc, I feel that the deadworld is very important so I would like to focus on it now.

Wan – finish Bobo. I will want your assistant and help with composoting, light and stuff, cos u said in term 1 that u liked working with that so are u up for it?

Raphael – can u get the scaled train from Josie and the scaled tree trainstation from me and then could u build the train tracks and texture them? Would be great! No one else gat time to do it ☺ + finish your 2 animated creatures, I can add glow on them in After effects as long as u pass me the finished animation, lets talk about the best way to do it on Wednesday. They will look very nice in the film!

Ghost ending

Has some nice sentimental music towards the end of the clip and some interesting sound effects in the beginning when the man is taken away by the dark spirits. Also, the beginning is a good example of live action with animation.

The sound effects and sounds are not mixed and as u notice we miss music and sounds for when the shadow appears, when Sophie takes off with the train etc etc so you are all more then welcome to look for music and effects - our soundguy Emmet is also on the case but we actually only have a few weeks left so we need to get it sorted out extremely soon so we all need to look for sounds and music.

in the beginning there's a recording of Mike. H's son, very cute voice! But I dont feel the tone so I will do a new version and mix and pitch as soon as I have access to recording equipment!

Yes, Now I am back from Sweden, couldnt get internet to work on my lap top there BUT finaly maya is working! :) As u all noticed we are Shit far behind so update me please;

As explained at the end of last term we will hold the formative assessments for ANI 304 in the first week back . Assessment will take place in the BA year room and the schedule is as follows.

Josie is working on her dissertation, maybe small changes to the blockout but I think I can do them myself as it looks right now.

i just realised that u n i forgat something- what did i say about the dr and the hospital room about 2 weeks ago that would save us a lot of work? remember?

anyway, i said that we could see him standing there n turning his head down but never see him leave the room- only hear a door close and footsteps - remember? but u made it different in the blockout cos u forgot and i forgot as well haha, well well

Can wan help us make a map of his face? Would be nice with some wrinkles, his hair texture looks good from a distance but if u look close u can see its really messed up - but we will not se him close so if think we can get away with it- can u check whats going on with that arm that i marked?

Nice details on the shirt etc, nice! the dr is in the background so we don't have to be super picky with him

I have scaled the room now and put it some of the props from Eva and Josie and fixed the other hospital rooms a bit and will pass it to all the animators - IMPORTANT for those of u who will animate in this environment - as I said before, some of the textures work funny- here they are marked as they are supposed to look, when Alex was going to look at this everything ironically worked fine so its something very funny going on. Now u know about it and this is how the textures should look.ok.

Bens version of Bobo

Wan and I - and Mike- talked to Ben three weeks ago when he showed these sketches and Wan made a good point then that I agreed with- it looks more like a boys toy then a girls toy - and I thought it looked to cartoonish and told Ben that we are not looking for a funny character but a settled one and not to cartoonish - more like my neighbor Totoro - anyway - the small drawings in the corner are the changes he has done in three weeks. I talked to Ben the other day and said that I still find him to cartoonish etc and that the work has to be done faster as we are waiting for him.

I suggest we texture Wan's version of Bobo and rig him so we don't get more delayed as Ben wasn't as fast as he said he would be. Or what do u guys say?

Hiya - I've started texturing the Dr. last night and managed to textured the tie and the blue shirt:

Texturing the white coat is more difficult as I had the same problem before with the toy models (the textures smudges if i highlight the whole body - I may be texturing wrong [technique-wise] so I'll look for a solution to make it easier to texture) - I got so frustrated with it last night! Will work on the weekends to get it right tho.

I have done different versions, in the old one, theres a shot from
behind Bobo's back when Sophie comes towards him and hugs him, but I
don't know if that shot was that good so I experimented a bit - which
one do u guys like the most?
This new shot and a change in another sequence has cut down the film
ONE MINUTE :)

The blockout is taking much more time then we had planned- but it is

small changes that has to be done, some shots are to fast, camera
angles needs to be changed etc, so it is still not finished but we are

Hi Caspar!

I spent last week on my dissertation but now I am back with the film and took a last look at the train and here is some feedback, I liked ure idea of adding a door so please do, I would also like u to delete the back windows and add frames around the windows so we can use the nice gold texture on the window frames - good news is that I don't think u have to worry about the carriages crashing into eachother cos u don't see the indise of the train in that curve - take a look at the animatic/blockout n see what u think, but I think its safe :)

Week 9 - Last Week his term!

Hi Everyone!

I guess that we all will be panicking with the dissertation this week BUT we have to meet up on Friday before the break.

We are three weeks behind in the program so the first week on the easter holiday I hope u all have understood will be college work.

On Friday we will go through all that has to be done and then I also want all of u to make your personal timetables for the easter break a and note that EVERY friday during this break everyone will have to report and post an update of their work n report their status here on the blog.

Asas work: Aminata has found faults with the girl model three times now so I received the finished version yesterday and will start working on the blendshapes this coming week so that Giles can rig her. I will check Wan's rig of the mother to make sure it doesn't need any more work or changes on Wednesday when I have access to maya. I will finish scene 1 for the block out that also will work as a look reference of how the film will be done.

Eva and Josie's work: -I want the props from Josie n Eva so that I can finish the hospital room and give it to Ross for lighting this coming week. I also want Josie to do the changes in her blockout scenes as some scenes are going way to fast etc see feedback here on the blog.

Raphael : is back and will find images that can work as the view from the hospital room and work on the white 2D creatures that will be in the film.

Ben : has offered us to sketch and model a new Bobo for us and is well informed about that he has to be finished in about ten days as we have to start animating. He will e-mail me sketches asap.

Wan: help make blendshapes for the girl. I gat the FINAL girl now so let me know when u are on skype and I'll send it to u )

The first week on the easter break we HAVE TO make sure all the characters gets rigged and finished and also that we get Caspar's train and plan all the animation scenes and who will do what during the break as all the animation has to be done during the break and I am very serious about this. So when u animate a scene I don't want u to think that one version of the scene will be enough - we are not animators so I want everyone to do their best and animate their scene in atleast 5-8 different versions so that we gat a lot to choose between. And if u don't read this and pretend that u did not know I will get really angry cos the point with this blog is that everyone reads it and knows the deal.

If anyone will go on holiday I will e-mail u what u have to do during the break, just let me know!

Meeting today with Mike

Hi Everyone!

We will meet up with Mike today at eleven.

The Mother is rigged and finished and Wan will either show a playblast of her on the blog or leave the rig for us in a public folder so that we can see her. I told Wan that he did not have to come as he has been working a lot on Bobo and the mother and is behind with his dissertation.

Giles and Rob found some things that would not work out with the model of the girl when she is rigged so Aminata has to do a couple of more changes before she is finished. Wan and I will both make blendshapes for her.

I will get all the hospital props from Eva and Josie today and will pass the hospital room to Ross for lighting :)

Mike. H gat a digital recorder from me yesterday so that he can start recording what hopefully might be Sophie's voice in the film.

Caspar has some problems with the train, the carriages goes in to eachother in curves so he is working on that and will also texture the train.

We are all very busy with out dissertations now but bear in mind - I wanted us to start animating week 7, it is week 8 now.
If we don't have EVERYTHING finished and start animating week 9 or week 10, first week of the easter break- then we are SCREWED and can say good bye to this film so we all need to help out even if we have a lot now and make sure that character models, block out, environments, camera list is done before we leave college this term.

Hiya - here's the 3D block-out for Scene 2 & 3

(NOTE - I wasn't too sure on how the shadow would look like so I borrowed Asa's sketch/designs from her blog for the chase scene - hope you don't mind Asa!)

This is just my opinion of the use of camera angles so its not finalised until the whole group sees it and gives feedback - I'll meet up with Asa on Monday to discuss this as well as with the other scenes - we both wanted to get the 3D block out done a.s.a.p so we can quickly pass it on to the sound guy (Sorry - I can't remember the guy's name!!!!)

Patrick - I wanna see the Dr textured so I can okej him before u rig him like with everything else. Post images her or mail me so I can see him asap. We'll skip the cloth, hope u gat the mail.

Wan and Patrick- I want the mother and the Dr FINISHED, ( rigged, textured, blendshapes EVERYTHING) by this week.

Wan can u start with Bobo or should I pass it to someone else? Let me know asap. Need him next week finished.

I want Josie and me to meet up on Monday or Tuesday and do the block out - let me know what day that suits u Josie.

I want all the hospital props from Eva and Josie on Monday - Textured and finished.

The girls blendshapes finished so the model can be passed to Giles.

Caspar - how is it going with the train, need it next week finished.

GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK ON THE DEADWORLD!! It has to be finished next week so what about the colors, what about the flowers etc etc, if I don't get feed back I will make all the decisions and all of u might not be happy with the look, its on u

Meeting with Mike today

Josie, Wan and Raphael (Asa text me a message and cannot come to the meeting)

Well we didn't have a meeting with Mike today as he was too busy with other things but he will see us next Wednesday (27TH) same time at 11am. Because he was busyI was only able to show him our group blog to let him see our progress ( he saw the dead world illustrations and the targets set for each members) and I also told him briefly what each member of the group had achieved that was not mentioned/screen shot images showned in the blog i.e. Asa working on the Dead World in Maya, Wan rigging the model etc.

Mike wants to see (for next meeting) -
The 3D model/characters combined in the Dead world - this is so that he could see how the characters appear in the 2D world.

Have test movements i.e. clouds, characters moving about in the dead world - have at least one shot of the scene to be shown for next week.

Mike just wants us to continue with our work progress and update the blog.

Colors for the Deadworld

Hi Everyone!

As we discussed today - I don't like the old idea of having everything grey, it doesn't really communicate to me, I wouldn't want to be in a dark grey place - does it really to u? We talked about animating textures to go from grey to light- we also talked about having one color scheme but work with the light and go from grey to more light n more color. We should decide tomorrow when we look at all the tests.

Cloud, mist, flowers and background are all 2D so they should be put in in compositing
fireflies as well. 3d ground should be made and rendered separately and characters separately - then all put together in AE.

Is this to yellowish?

Developing The Dead World

Hi Everyone!

I have been working on the Dead world in After Effects, just to get the colors and the feel right. I still want to make this environment in Maya so I will make the Maya tests to nite.

My questions is to you guys n girls- isn't the Deadworld to unhappy if it goes in all the grey scales as we wanted? Don't we have to really communicate that this is a happy secure and nice plave where the girls wants to be?
Here are some simple color tests to see what could work and not:

I have one in grey scales as well, just so that u all can see the difference. Kept the clouds yellow in this version.

and here's the flower that I found so far that I liked the most, but it might make this place to pretty. And here are more of my flower sketches;

Here is one idea that I had for flowers - they could grow on roots but u would never see any trees.

Stool,Vases - finished textured - dolls needs more time!

Got the Stool and vases textured:
Having problems texturing the dolls (especially with the Horse doll) so it may not be great - I'll post them up a.s.a.p when I've textured them the best I can. This is how the dolphin doll looks like at the moment. It looks fine at the side view but when you rotate to its front view:

The texture is stretched out in the center:

Any ideas how I can solve this problem? - its the same with the head for the horse doll!

train update

This is how the train is looking at the moment. After talking with Asa i have changed the cabin of the engine slightly so you can't see as much inside. I am not sure if there should be a door or not.
I have also sorted the problem of connecting the carriages. I am working out how i can rig the chain to move nicely.Oh this is just to give an idea of the scale please tell me if this is wrong or any thoughts on any of the other parts. Also some ideas for the style/colour for the texture would be good. thanks

Update after the meeting with Mike

At today's meeting I wanted to put this film down, I don't feel that we have done much progress since Mike warned us and is really worried about that we are so behind with our schedule.

But Mike wants us to continue and he believe that we can make this film.

We will have a meeting with Mike again next Wednesday at 11.

I think its really helpful if we can meet him once a week cos he can help us with the art direction and the animation. Next week I want to feel and believe that we can get there, I think we all need to feel it so lets finish off some shit on our long long list now!

Until Wednesday:

Asa - make tests of the Dead world environment and make scene 1 in the animatic ruffly to get the feel of the film. Paint the lip texture to the mother. Pass a digital recorder to Mike.H so that he can record the voice. Texture the drip stand and find out why some textures act so weird.

Aminata - change the ears on Sophie.

Wan - finish the mother, texture her hair with the texture that u showed today. Add bump map on her jumper. Make her REALLY happy blendshape face for the photoframe - show me, and then rig her. Pass Asa the lip UV map for the mother =+ maybe I can help you with the eyebrows. Give Bobo more shapes, more like the model I did quickly today.

Josie - make your scene 1 and 2 from the animatic in 3D. U gat the hospital room, the girl, the mother and the Dr today even if they are not finished they work fine for a block out. Think about camera angles - we don't want to see Sophie giving the toy to the mother without seeing the mothers face. Finish the two toys, the stool and the vase. Research and sketch on flowers/plants for the deadworld. texture the heart rate monitor.

Eva - build the hospital room "lift" by the bed on the wall. Would appreciate if you could texture it as well.

Caspar - texture and rig the train until week 8. Then we want to get started.

Next week Giles will help us and rig the girl ;)

Modelled new models and textured the toys

Well I know for sure that I won't have time to do any work tomorrow (Tuesday) as I have work - job. So I quickly modelled the things I was assigned to do. Firstly, the stool:

The Vase(s) - I really liked both the orange and red coloured (from the picture that Asa posted long ago) and I can't really choose so I just modelled both! - so you guys can just pick the one for me!

I'm not too proud with the dolphin texture :S - I have no idea how to bump-map so this is the best I could do, I used the pink fabric texture for it but I may need to change it again!

With the horse doll I didn't change the textures but I did smoothed the whole body again so there's no edges shown anymore. Also I've done the changes for Scene 2 & 3 for the animatic but I had problems while editing them with the original animatic so I'll work on that tomorrow at Uni instead.

New week and New tasks

If u haven't - ajabaja as we say in Sweden- get back on track!

Josie are finsihed with the two toys and will texture the heart rate monitor + model and texture a vase and a stool ( info in older post ). Don't forget to bring in your changes to the animatic. I would also like u to research and sketch on what kind of plants/ vegetation/flowers we could have in the deadworld cos we don't want to copy Josie's La La Land but have our own style.

Asa is finsihed with the hospital room and are waiting for props from Josie and Eva. Start working on the Dead world environment. Change Bobo and pass ideas / models to Wan for blendshapes and rig.

Wan - the Mother finished, with eyebrows and some color on the lips, pass me the hair test as fast as u can so we can decide about the hair for all the models as fast as u can. Let me know when u are finsihed so I can pass u new tasks.

Patrick - rigged and textured the Dr. Would u like to change 2 scenes in the animatic? It's changing a camera angle in Wans and yours first scene, scene 4 and then making my scene, scene 1 in maya - when Bobo and Sofie meet in the mist. Cos then we would have a block out:) Let me know so that I can explain better and show you what I mean.

Raphael - has vanished.

Eva - working on the lift this week.

We need someone who can weight, rig and make blendshapes for the girl- as she is our most important character it should be someone who is familiar with rigging and blendshapes so that it can be done quickly. So let me know if u know anyone in the class asap.

The Hospital Room latest update

Ladies and gentlemen, it is slowly but surely getting there. I played around with different floor textures and I like this one the most cos its a typical institution floor. I want it more glossy though as they are in hospitals. All the bump maps and textures are not on yet but I do think it looks better now when I added the window and the chair or what do you think?

As u can see the texture on the bow with toys and the panel and one of the drawings are acting really funny so I am trying to figure out why.. really weird.

Will get more props from Josie and Eva this week.

I want to wait with the pillows and the duvet until Sophie is in the scene so I can shape them after her. Can anyone help me look for a good picture to have as the view from the window?

The Girl in Progress

These are some of the changes that I have asked Aminata to do, give the girl bigger ears and eyes, take away the texture on her bald head and make her look bit paler and sicker when she is bald and healthier with hair. I also think her eyebrows should come down a little bit cos she looks a bit surprised now. Aminata and Wan will use the same hair and skin texture for the girl and for the mother. But its looking good isn't it?

Two dolls modeled

Evening! - I've modeled the two toys for the hospital room - for the horse doll I just need to make some minor changes like the scurf (need to connect the vertex later - need to combine the half model as one)

This is just a test - not sure if I should use Maya fur instead.. ..

With the dolphin doll I'm not too sure - does it look like a doll to everyone? or should I just work on textures to make it look like a doll rather the model itself?

It seems to still be some confusion so here it is, the way I want us to work,

* if u don't understand what i am talking about, ask me, if u think that i am wrong- say so, i want us to communicate so that we can bring the best out of everyone and make a really good film :)

* if u can't make it to an meeting then u call or e-mail me and say so.

* Missing a meeting does not mean that you escaped your deadline - e-mail me your work or if it is work in progress, show me print screen images on the blog. I need to see what everyone is doing veery week and I have said so a thousand times before.

* Show some commitment and take part in discussions, decisions that are made and show up at meetings and be a part of the blog.

* try your very best to stick to deadlines, reasons why failing them should be technical problems or that u have been extremely sick or have personal problems - not that u went to the cinema or the pub instead.

This is all I am asking for.

If u can't follow this, then I don't want u in my team.

Todays Meeting

Hi Josie and Wan!

At todays meeting we took a look at Wan's blendshapes and my hospital room. Wan had some minor things to change on some of the blendshapes, most of them had to do with the eyes and that the mother should have heavier eyelids so that you wouldn't see as much of her eyes as u do now. Nice work Wan! I realised that we need one happy blendshape so that we can use it for the picture of Sophie and her mum in the picture frame on the hospital.

We realised that we need more things in the hospitalroom to show that it actually is a hospital room. Eva will model the lift above the bed. I am trying to find a typical hospital floor texture, has been looking for weeks, propbaly have to paint it.

I added some plugs when u guys had left, should we go for brithish ones? easier to model:)
The round circle was just the begining of modeling a European round plug )

it already looks a bit more as a hospital room :)

And Guys, I just had a chat with Dan and we took a look at Bobo, we do need to change him a bit cos he is scary - I need u all to brainstorm on what changes we can do and I need you to do it fast, areas that has to be changed is:

the nose, we already been there and tried but it didnt work - will have too look at other toys and how they solved it

the shape of his head - maybe we can drag his cheeks out a bit so that he is not so flat?

I know that u have done blendshapes but Bobo is also a maincharacter so people has to like him, I will add some ideas here as soon as I come home and we should all try and help out with this!

Raphael and Patrick did not show up and has not posted any work and we did not recieve any concept work from Adam or Christina.

Josie cuts in her changes in the animatic and shows me.
Jossie texture and model props to the hospital room. Like this and a vase to have on her table and the chair to have by the heart rate monitor and Dr euipment. Show me on skype and let me know when u are finished so that I can pass u new work. Ps probably easier to model this using NURBS. Let me know if u haven't worked with Nurbs and I can show u, easier to shape things, I think so anyway ;)

Choose a simple vase with a foot that nots to big so that it can fit it on the crewded table :)

Asa finish hospital room ( change floor texture, change guestbed, texture drip stand ) and start with the deadworld. Is Patrick texturing the Dr? I will do it now but as I am doing both the environments it will take some time.

Aminata changes to the model, eyes and feet, hair texture ( use the same as Wan), no texture on the head ont he bald version, take down the eyebrowse a bit cos now she looks a bit surprised.

Wan changes to the mothers blenshapes + texture her hair. Then the mother would be finsihed and would be ready to get rigged. We need her to be finished this week. Did u see the link here on the blog about rigging? I gat it from Aminata and she said it as really helpful.

Help! Time?

I tested yellow as I thought it could help make the dead world a more "happy" place

As I have been painting different clouds and backgrounds it hit me, what time is it in the dead world when Sophie first goes there - and the second time? Cos that affects the use of colors.

I imagined it like mid day, afternoon - as the train will take off in to the sun it wouldn't be so nice if it was morning sun or?

Give me your opinion n thoughts on this so we can wrap it up!

Props and Toys modelling

I've been working hardcore on "Owl's Day Out" so my input on this film isn't very much. However I do want to help. I've already modelled some books and just about to finish a treasure chest. I picked my selection from the research that Josie had done. But I did say I would do a tamagotchi.

I've picked up my modelling skills quick and also they're getting a lot better. I'm finding new ways to handle stress a lot better this year and it's working, so far....... I will discuss more details with Asa about props modelling in a future meeting. I shall be in tomorrow if need be.

Bobo: Fur test.

Asa, we desperately need a competant UV texture editor, and its not me :(
Once the UVs are correctly mapped, the fur will look very "uniform" and not so many "seams" will appear on the model.

I'll try pelt mapping, but I need to know which model will get the go ahead so I can start that + the blendshapes for Bobo.

I'm on skype - in the meantime I'll get back to my dissertation.

The files for Bobo that I was working on got corrupted so I had to start anew...

Anyways, here's some changes to the original model for the change in snout to accomodate the smile and the other blendshapes:

I kinda prefer the original - hate to go 2 steps forward then 3 steps back but it happens I guess.

The only thing is with the original design, once the fur goes on I dont think smiles or mouth movements are highly visible...

Background for the Film?

WEEK 4 meeting protocol

At todays meeting Mike Smith came by and expressed his concerns and worries about our film and group - the bottomline is that we have two weeks on us to prove him wrong and start producing much more work and on a higher level. Otherwise there will be no film..

From today's meeting:

We talked about how to animate Bobo's face expressions today- he is a bit tricky as he is so simply designed. We looked at different bear characters online in film and choosed that the Teddybear toy in the film A.I was the one we should go for ( good thinking Josie! ).

Aminata popped up like an saving angel and decided to model our main character Sophie- I am not sure yet about if she will texture and rig her as well but atleast we gat a model maker now so that is good!

I told everyone that the aime is to have environments, characters and animatic set n done until week 7 - cos then we have to start animating.

Michael H's daughter will probably be Sophie's voice so he received the old audio today and said that he would record at home so thats really good!

Work until next meeting next week:

Wan - continue modeling, rigging, weighting and making the blendshapes for the Mother and Bobo. The next task for u after all this is done is to start making changes to your scene in the animatic - I don't except you to be done with all the rigging until next week but you said today that you didn't feel that you had so much work so if you get time then you know that the animatic is the next one to get cracking with :)

Josie - is making the changes to her scene in the animatic and is modeling the two toys. I don't expect u to have them textured by next week but it would be nice if they could be modeled.

Asa - finishing the texturing of the hospital room + making concept for Bobo's blendshapes +

giving Patrick concept of how I imagine the deadworld so we can take Sophie and Bobo's meeting in scene one and make it in AE and maybe I do a version in Maya as well. Just so we gat the final style and look of the deadworld. Check if we still can get help from Samir and Ash with animation or if the have changed their mind and we need to look for other animators. If I get time I will do test for the look of the deadworld in maya + make concept for clouds, mist and more backgrounds as I want lots of 2d and an organic look to the deadworld.

Raphael - missed u at the meeting today, I know that u gat problems with internet but maybe u have to go to college now and then so that u can check it. I sent u the heart rate monitor and there is research on it appearing two times at this Blog so just scroll n you'll find it. Jess wanted u to change the size of it and maybe move the bottoms as she modeled it for another film as well and doesn't want them to see that we have the same :) I wanna see more concept of those creatures, how we should paint, texture them and now my question is, can u make an animation test with them? Let me know.

Patrick - continue rigging, weighting and texturing the Doctor character.

IMPORTANT: Meeting Now on Wednesday 11 o'clock

Hi Everyone!

I still haven't seen all the work from everyone from the X-mas break and we have been back in college for three weeks now so bring it now on Wednesday.

Wan, u said that u had problems with Bobo's nose - can u e-mail me or post a screen print here on the Blog so I can see what the problem is so that we can solve it.

Via Mike I have e-mailed out an request to all 2nd and 3rd year students about help modeling and rigging our main character Sophie. No one has replied. So that is a BIG problem that we have to solve this week without Sophie there is no film.

I have problems with Maya so I have not finished textured the hospital room but has worked on our character The Shadow instead in Corel Paint and with normal paint. I will post some of my tests and sketches here on the Blog so that you all can give your opinion.

Asa - texturing the hospital room and doing more concept and tests for the Shadow character. Make the new schedule with Josie. Find modeler for Sophie.

Josie - model and texture the two toys to Sophie's hospital room, the dolphin and the horse and when that is done do the changes to your scenes in the animatic ( there's a list here on the Blog that I posted before f X-mas - except we are keeping the old end ). Ask me if anything seems weird.

Raphael- texturing the heart rate monitor and, I really loved your idea today Raphael! Really nice! So go for that character and work on textures and colors, we want them soft and light and don't want them to take to much attention from the scene. Really nice work, thanks Raph! We can animate them in 2D and put their animated films on planes in Maya, it will look amazing.

Wan - modeling, rigging, texturing and blendshapes for the Mother and Bobo. Aminata is doing more concept for the mothers blendshapes and I am on the case with Bobo who is tricky as he gat no real expressive eyes etc.

Patrick - texture and rig the Doctor character, I will e-mail u a link to a page online from where u can download the maya file.

This week we gat some extra help from Adam so he is working on concept for us as different creatures for the deadworld and the look of the deadworld. I have told him about Raphaels idea about more " spiritual" creatures as I want to go for that.

I am on skype almost everyday if anyone has any questions or want to pass me files etc.

The effects in this video are really good. It looks as if it was done in after effects. 20 seconds and 2 mins 30 seconds. Ive started to analyse our fantasy world characters, and I think that they should be more suggestive and subtle. This should keep the focus on Sophie and Bobo.

Toys for Sophie - some research

Hiya everyone!

I've done some research on toys that could be included in Sophie's hospital room. I apologize if its a bit late but I've been caught up with my dissertation stuff.

Anyways, I looked back at Sophie's character profile from last term and almost forgotten that Sophie likes to grow up to be just like her mum or a pirate! - It also says that she likes to daydream being a mermaid and such and so I found some pirate related toys:

We don't have to use these toys but it was just a research so please comment what you guys like!

Hey ya!

Josie and Eva is on the toy modelling and texturing case. Josie is also doing some toy research, I think it will be enough with 4 toys.

Josie will make the horse that she draw last year that we all really liked.

I would like to have a tamagotchi on her bed table, who of u would like to model and texture a tamagotchi? Let me know.

And who is up for modeling and texturing another soft toy, could be one of those I have in the research or you could come with suggestions.
